A 41-year-old man is facing multiple theft charges following an incident in the city’s downtown Thursday afternoon.
Officers with the Peterborough Police Service Community F.I.R.S.T. Unit were called around 1 p.m. to a business in the George Street and Rink Street area for a reported theft in progress.
Police say the suspect had left the store before officers arrived, but was located a short time later during a search of the surrounding area and taken into custody.
The stolen items were recovered and returned to the business.
Through further investigation, officers allege the man was also connected to three additional theft incidents at another local business over the past two weeks.
As a result, the accused has been charged with four counts of theft under $5,000.
Police say the man was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 24, 2026.
