Lakelands Public Health and the Peterborough Humane Society are partnering to offer reduced-cost rabies vaccination clinics aimed at improving access to pet care and preventing the spread of disease.
Officials say the cost of vaccines is often a barrier for pet owners, and the clinics are intended to help protect animals and reduce public health risks.
The first clinic will be held Friday, May 8, 2026, from 11 am to 3 pm at the North Kawartha Community Centre, 340 McFadden Rd., Apsley. The cost is $40 per pet. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in carriers or properly restrained. Registration is required through the Humane Society website by selecting the “APSLEY LOCATION – Rabies Clinic Appointment” option.
A second clinic is also scheduled for later in the spring. The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society will host a rabies vaccine and microchip clinic on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9 am to 12 pm at 2887 Lakefield Rd., Selwyn. The cost is $40 per service or $60 for both vaccination and microchipping.
Ontario regulations require all cats and dogs to be vaccinated against rabies starting at three months of age and to remain up to date for life.
