OPP warn against leaving pets or people in hot vehicles as temperatures rise
As warmer weather settles in, the OPP is reminding the public about the dangers of leaving pets, children or vulnerable individuals inside parked vehicles.
Police say even on mild days, the temperature inside a car can climb quickly and become life-threatening in just minutes.
Sergeant Ed Sanchuk says it does not take long for the inside of a vehicle to heat up.
The reminder comes as temperatures begin to climb, with officers urging people to stay alert to the risks associated with parked cars.
Police are asking residents to double-check their vehicles before walking away, adding that cracking a window is not enough to prevent dangerous conditions from developing inside.
The OPP says extra care should be taken to ensure pets, children, older adults and anyone with mobility or medical challenges are never left unattended in a vehicle.
