The nomination period for the City of Peterborough’s municipal election opens Friday, May 1, 2026.
The election will be held Monday, October 26. Candidates can file to run for Mayor, City Councillor, or school board trustee.
Candidate guides and forms are available at peterboroughvotes.ca. The City says the guide includes information on nomination procedures, campaign rules, expense limits, ward boundaries, and required forms.
To file, candidates must submit:
- A completed nomination form
- A filing fee ($200 for mayor, $100 for councillor or school board trustee)
- Endorsements from at least 25 eligible electors (not required for school board trustee candidates)
Electors can endorse more than one candidate.
Positions up for election include the Mayor, two councillors for each of five wards (Otonabee, Monaghan, Town, Ashburnham, and Northcrest), and trustee roles for four school boards: Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir, and Conseil scolaire Viamonde.
The nomination period runs until August 21 at 2 pm. Filings are accepted by appointment at City Hall.
