The Vatican has appointed the Most Rev. Daniel Miehm as the next bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London, marking a leadership transition for the southwestern Ontario diocese.
The appointment, announced by Pope Leo XIV, will see Miehm become the 11th bishop of the diocese, succeeding the Most Rev. Ronald Fabbro, who is retiring after more than two decades in the role.
Miehm has served as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough since 2017. He is set to be formally installed during a Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica on June 29, coinciding with the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.
In a statement, Daniel Miehm said he is “humbled” by the appointment and expressed gratitude for his time serving in Peterborough.
“It has been a joy to minister here, and I have been consistently moved by the depth of faith and the commitment to the Church among the good people of this diocese,” Miehm said, adding he looks forward to working with clergy and parishioners in London.
He also acknowledged the leadership of Ronald Fabbro, calling his predecessor’s tenure one marked by strong guidance and service.
Fabbro, who has served as bishop since 2002, welcomed the appointment, saying Miehm brings experience, compassion and strong pastoral leadership to the role.
“He will be a good shepherd to the faithful of the Diocese,” Fabbro said, noting his confidence in Miehm’s ability to guide the church into the future.
Fabbro also reflected on his own time in the position, expressing gratitude for his 24 years of service and pledging continued prayers for the diocese in retirement.
Miehm’s appointment comes during the Easter season, which he described as a time of renewal and hope, as he prepares to begin a new chapter in ministry.
