The 10th annual Peterborough Butterfly Run is set to bring participants together at Millennium Park on Sunday, marking a decade of raising awareness and support for those impacted by pregnancy loss, infant loss and infertility.
Presented by the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation in partnership with the Partners In Pregnancy Clinic, the event has become a meaningful community gathering centred on remembrance, connection and support.
On Sunday, participants will take part in a choice of events, including the 1K Kids Fun Run, the 1K Memorial Walk and the timed 5K Run/Walk. The Memorial Walk remains free to join, while there is a registration fee for both the Kids Fun Run and the 5K.
Foundation executive director Vince Bierworth says this year’s theme reflects the tone of the day.
Bierworth says the focus goes beyond awareness, highlighting the support the event continues to provide. He shared more in this first clip.
Since 2018, funds raised through the Butterfly Run have helped create close to 1,000 bereavement kits for families and individuals, distributed through health care providers to offer comfort during difficult times.
Bierworth says those moments of support often stay with people long after the kits are received. He explains in this second clip.
While the day can carry emotional weight for many participants, Bierworth says the atmosphere is also one of hope, reflection and community connection.
He describes that balance in this final clip.
Along with bereavement kits, the Butterfly Run also supports Hospice Peterborough bereavement retreats and care packages for those navigating loss, continuing its focus on care that extends beyond race day
