Officials are warning residents in Selwyn Township and surrounding areas to prepare for rising water levels in the coming days.
Parks Canada says water levels entering the region remain high and could increase by 30 to 46 centimetres over the next one to two weeks. Otonabee Conservation has already issued a flood warning for the Trent-Severn Waterway.
Flows from rivers feeding the Kawartha Lakes are expected to peak soon, impacting several lakes, including Pigeon Lake, Buckhorn Lake, Stoney Lake and Chemong Lake. Officials say dams are fully open, allowing water to move freely through the system.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to take precautions, including securing shoreline structures, moving valuables to higher ground and considering sandbagging around vulnerable entry points.
Free sand is available at the township’s public works yard, and residents are reminded to stay clear of fast-moving water and follow safety guidance.
