Murray Byrne is here to tell us it’s never too late in life to share your creative talents.
Come this June, the 91-year-old Peterborough resident will do just that as a member of the cast of The Kid From Simcoe Street presented by Trent Valley Archives Theatre at Market Hall. The play, written by Ed Schroeter and Gerry McBride, is based on the 2012 memoir of city native James Clarke, who became an esteemed lawyer, judge and poet despite having grown up in poverty.
For Byrne appearing in the production is a full circle moment, coming decades after he befriended Clarke as football teammates at St. Peter’s High School.
Byrne, who has appeared in productions staged by the Peterborough Theatre Guild and St. James’ Players, is looking forward to reconnecting with his friend after many years.
Byrne says this opportunity comes at a perfect time in his life.
The Kid From Simcoe Street will be staged June 4 to 7. Tickets cost $30 to $40, and are available online at www.markethall.org.
