Council in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen has formally voiced its opposition to the proposed Alto high-speed rail project, citing a lack of information and significant community concerns.
The resolution, passed April 7th, follows multiple council discussions and feedback from residents. Officials say key issues include potential land expropriation, impacts on rural life, property values, farmland and local businesses, as well as environmental and noise concerns.
Council also raised questions about emergency access and possible costs tied to rerouted roads.
Members say no detailed business plan has been provided and responses from Alto and MP Emma Harrison failed to address concerns.
Council says the project offers no clear local benefit.
