City crews have started spring litter cleanup, a process expected to take several weeks because of the volume of debris.
As snow melts, trash that built up over the winter becomes visible in parks, along streets, and on sidewalks. Residents are reminded that litter can harm wildlife, pollute waterways, and attract pests. Proper disposal is encouraged, and full garbage bins can be reported online at peterborough.ca/ServiceRequest.
Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services maintains 390 garbage bins across more than 100 parks and along the city’s trail system. Crews will focus on these areas in the coming weeks.
Last year, city staff collected a total of 334 tonnes of litter and garbage from parks and trails.
