A traffic stop for speeding on Highway 115 has led to multiple criminal charges for a 33-year-old Oshawa woman.
On Tuesday, just before 4:00 p.m., an officer from the Peterborough County OPP noticed a northbound vehicle travelling well above the posted speed limit. During the stop, the officer observed an open bottle of alcohol within reach of the driver, prompting an impaired driving investigation. The driver failed to provide a breath sample when requested.
The officer also learned the driver had an outstanding warrant in another region. The woman was arrested and taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment.
She faces charges of:
- Failure or refusal to comply with a demand
- Speeding
- Failure to carry a valid insurance card
- Driving without a currently validated permit
Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 5.
The OPP remind motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, taxi, public transit, or stay overnight, as any amount can affect judgment and safety.
Anyone with information about suspected unlawful activity is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at stopcrimehere.ca or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
