A new temporary exhibition curated by Fleming College’s Museum Management and Curatorship (MMC) post-graduate students opened on Saturday at the Peterborough Museum and Archives, 300 Hunter St. E.
Titled “We Wear Many Hats,” the exhibit explores the social and cultural significance of headwear, showing how hats can communicate identity, belonging, and social roles, while highlighting their evolving place in Peterborough’s history. Visitors can explore objects, stories, and design that reveal the personal and collective meaning of something as familiar as a hat.
The exhibit runs until June 14. An official opening with speeches and refreshments takes place Thursday, April 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend.
“We Wear Many Hats” is the culminating project of the MMC program, bringing together two semesters of research, planning, and hands-on exhibit development. Students collaborated to create an engaging experience for visitors of all ages.
“It’s been such a great hands-on experience learning how to build an exhibit,” says Erin Ralph, a student in the program. “Every step of the project has been a valuable experience that I can’t wait to use in my future career. Plus, it’s lots of fun!”
Admission is by donation. The museum is wheelchair and stroller accessible, with free parking available. For more information and updates, visit peterborough.ca/museum.
