City crews will patch potholes as weather allows, focusing first on high-traffic areas and locations where road damage poses safety risks. Motorists are reminded to slow down, exercise caution, and leave a safe distance when approaching maintenance crews.
Inspections and repairs are carried out year-round under Provincial Maintenance Standards, with extra attention during the spring thaw. Potholes often form when moisture enters cracks in the asphalt, freezes, expands, and then breaks apart under traffic as temperatures rise.
Residents can report potholes by:
- Using the online form at peterborough.ca/ServiceRequest
- Calling Public Works at 705-745-1386
Road maintenance programs
This spring and summer, the city will also carry out road maintenance including restoration of utility cuts excavated over the winter, starting in late April.
Half-load restrictions
Commercial vehicles are limited to half-loads on designated streets until April 30, 2026. These restrictions protect roads during the spring thaw when pavement can’t support full loads.
