Peterborough native Porter Martone made history last night, scoring his first NHL goal in dramatic fashion to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 2-1 overtime win against the Boston Bruins in front of a raucous home crowd.
The 19-year-old became the first Flyer ever to score his first NHL goal as an overtime game-winner and only the 38th player in league history to achieve the feat.
Martone also assisted on the Flyers’ other goal, scored by Christian Dvorak, finishing the game with two points and earning first star honours.
It’s been a remarkable start for Martone, who joined the Flyers roster just a week ago. In four games with Philly, he now has one goal and two assists in his brief NHL career, showing early signs of his potential impact at the top level.
The win was not only a milestone moment for Martone but also a boost for Philadelphia, moving them into a playoff spot with just five games left in the regular season. Martone and the Flyers return to the ice tomorrow night in New Jersey against the Devils.
