Neil Morton says he is considering a run for mayor after completing a community outreach initiative focused on listening to residents.
Morton recently wrapped up his “100 Coffees” campaign, meeting with a broad cross-section of the community, including entrepreneurs, educators, students and frontline workers.
He says the goal was to better understand local challenges and opportunities by hearing directly from those who live and work in the city.
Morton said the conversations underscored the need for stronger collaboration and connection across the community.
He plans to reflect on the feedback in the coming weeks before making a final decision.
Morton had co-founded PTBOCanada with Evan Holt in 2010. It was sold to current owner Kirtus Evoy in March of 2021 after owning the business for over a decade. His name surfaced as a possible contender in September of last year when he was mentioned in a Peterborough Examiner opinion-piece by former Editor-in-Chief of the Peterborough This Week, Lois Tuffin. We spoke with Tuffin following its release.
Back in November, current city councillor Keith Riel announced he will be running for mayor. He’s currently co-chair of the municipal operations and community services’ homelessness portfolios.
The official nomination period runs from May 1st through August 21st.
