The Trent Community Research Centre marked a major milestone Thursday with its annual Celebration of Community-Based Research at Market Hall. The event highlighted three decades of connecting student research with community impact across the region.
Kevin Whitmore, Director of Trent University’s Careerspace, the event helps to bridge the gap between students, community organizations and the university.
Nearly 70 student-led projects were showcased, developed in partnership with more than 40 local organizations and businesses. The research addressed a wide range of issues, including climate change, clean energy, housing, food security, public safety and wildlife conservation.
While the students benefit greatly, Whitmore says local organizations reap the benefits of having quality projects by perceptive students.
The event featured a poster showcase, student presentations and an awards ceremony recognizing collaboration between students, faculty and community groups.
Whitemore say the initiative continues to strengthen ties between research and real-world community needs.
