The Peterborough Petes have announced that the 17th Annual Pink in the Rink Campaign raised $43,486 in support of the Survivors Abreast Peterborough Dragon Boat Team.
Petes General Manager Michael Oke said the organization is “incredibly grateful to our fans, partners, community members, staff, volunteers, and Survivors Abreast whose generosity made the campaign a success. Initiatives like Pink in the Rink show the power of our community coming together for an important cause.”
The month-long campaign included merchandise and jersey replica sales, rinkboard name sales, and ticket fundraising through Survivors Abreast. On game night, fans took part in a silent auction, an on-ice jersey auction, a pass-the-bucket fundraiser, and Pizza Hut Chuck-A-Pep.
The funds will support Survivors Abreast, a local group of breast cancer survivors who develop paddling skills, participate in dragon boating, and raise awareness and funding for breast cancer care. The group’s Dragon Boat Festival has raised over $4.9 million for cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
“Recovery after a cancer diagnosis doesn’t just end with surgeries and treatments,” said Survivors Abreast President Janice James. “Survivorship is a journey of its own, and these funds will go a long way in supporting our mission. Thank you to Paris Marine and everyone who made Pink in the Rink such a success.”
The Petes return to the ice Thursday, March 26, starting their first-round OHL playoff series against the North Bay Battalion. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
