Ontario’s Opposition NDP is giving the province’s 2026 budget a failing grade, arguing it does not address affordability or key public services.
Leader Marit Stiles and shadow finance minister Jessica Bell released a report card grading the plan on five priorities, including cost of living, health care, housing and job creation.
“This budget fails the test to meet Ontario’s priorities,” Stiles said. “Young people and families are struggling with sky-high rents, fewer opportunities, and soaring costs.”
Stiles also criticized government spending choices, saying, “Budgets are about choices, and Doug Ford’s choices are costing you.”
Bell said the plan falls short of expectations.
“Premier Ford had a clear test for this budget… He failed on all counts,” she said, adding the budget “delivers cuts where Ontarians need support the most.”
She pointed to reductions in education, housing and job training, arguing the plan does little to improve conditions for Ontarians facing economic challenges.
