The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is reporting improved student achievement in mathematics, as trustees also approved a new trustee distribution model for the next board term.
During a recent meeting, the board received an update on its Math Achievement Action Plan, which targets Grade 3, 6 and 9 students across 23 schools. The initiative focuses on closing achievement gaps and improving results on provincial assessments.
Board data shows Grade 6 priority schools have reduced achievement gaps by 75 per cent compared to baseline provincial data, alongside a 12.3 per cent increase in students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard on EQAO math tests. Grade 9 students in targeted classrooms also saw a 12.4 per cent increase in meeting the standard over the past year.
The plan includes revised teaching strategies, enhanced data tracking, and updated professional learning for educators aimed at improving outcomes in mathematics.
Board chair Paul Brown said the results are encouraging. “We are encouraged and pleased to see these significant gains for our students in the complex area of mathematics,” he said. “We thank our educators and staff in schools, classrooms and centrally for leading this work and making these successes possible for our students.”
Trustees also approved a trustee distribution model that will guide representation for the next term, as the board continues to monitor student progress and expand successful strategies across the district.
