The City of Peterborough is inviting residents, artists and community groups to share their ideas as it begins work on a new Municipal Cultural Plan.
The plan will guide cultural development in Peterborough over the next decade, identifying what’s working well, highlighting gaps and barriers, and helping shape future investments, partnerships and actions to enhance the city’s cultural experience.
The Municipal Cultural Plan will focus on three key areas: public art and placemaking, events, and cultural tourism. This includes how creative expression shapes public spaces, how festivals and community events contribute to daily life, and how Peterborough’s culture is shared with visitors year-round as part of the city’s tourism strategy.
Mayor Jeff Leal said arts and culture play a key role in bringing people together and reflecting the community’s identity, adding that everyone is encouraged to take part in shaping the plan.
Community members can share their input online through the City’s engagement platform, where they can complete a short questionnaire, contribute to a culture map by marking meaningful locations, or download a toolkit to host discussions within their own groups or networks.
Additional public consultation, including information and drop-in sessions, is expected later this spring.
