A family dispute in Peterborough County escalated into violence, leaving one person with burns to their face.
Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police were called to a residence in Peterborough County around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 17 following a report of an assault involving two adult siblings.
Police say an argument between the two quickly turned physical. During the altercation, one sibling grabbed an edged weapon and approached the other before it was wrestled away. After losing control of the weapon, the individual then grabbed a pot containing a boiling substance from the stove and threw it at the other person.
Officers arrived on scene and arrested a 43-year-old man. He is charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The accused was later released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough at a future date.
Police are reminding the public that supports are available for victims of violence, including Victim Services of Peterborough Northumberland. Anyone in immediate danger is urged to call 9-1-1.
The OPP is also asking anyone with information about unlawful activity to contact Crime Stoppers.
