The Riverview Park and Zoo is mourning the loss of Splish, a North American river otter who passed away at the age of 19 from age-related heart issues.
Splish arrived at the zoo in 2007 and quickly became a favourite among visitors, known for his playful behaviour, curiosity, and engaging personality. Over the years, he delighted guests with his swimming, enrichment activities, and participation in daily feedings.
With a typical life expectancy of about 12 years in the wild and up to 20 years in captivity, Splish lived a full life alongside fellow otters Meadow and Violet, who remain on exhibit.
Zoo staff and volunteers say he will be deeply missed for the joy and memories he created for the community throughout his time at Riverview Park and Zoo.
