Residents and caregivers in Peterborough and surrounding communities now have easier access to local programs and services thanks to a new community resource guide.
Designed for residents aged 50 and older, the “Information Guide and Directory” brings together practical information to help people navigate different stages of life and changing circumstances. It is organized around common topics and questions, including health, nutrition, safety, recreation and volunteering.
Catherine Pink, director of support services at Community Care Peterborough, says the resources compiled are a direct response to local concern.
The Information Guide and Directory was developed through a partnership involving Community Care, the City of Peterborough and Age-friendly Peterborough, while United Way Peterborough & District funded the project.
Pink says this project is foundational to the collaboration within Peterborough’s network of support.
The housing section outlines options such as renting, retirement residences and long-term care homes, along with information about financial assistance for housing, home modifications and moving. Readers will also find explanations of independent and assisted living, as well as details about short-term stays at retirement residences for recovery or caregiver respite.
Pink says this collaborative effort represents what Community Care does best.
Printed copies of the guide are available at several locations across the region, including municipal offices and Community Care sites in Peterborough and nearby communities.
