Environment officials are warning residents to prepare for significant snowfall and difficult travel conditions.
Snow is expected to start late Friday morning and continue through Saturday morning across parts of southern Ontario, with total accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres possible. Forecasters say snowfall rates could reach up to five centimetres per hour, leading to reduced visibility at times.
Snow may mix with rain during the afternoon and evening before temperatures drop overnight, which could create icy roads and sidewalks.
The heaviest snow is expected in higher elevations, including the Oak Ridges Moraine.
Officials warn that roads and walkways may become difficult to navigate as snow accumulates. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and adjust to changing road conditions.
Residents clearing snow are also advised to take frequent breaks and avoid overexertion while shovelling.
