Drivers across Ontario are being reminded that school bus safety starts with responsible driving.
The Ontario Provincial Police are running a two-week enforcement campaign aimed at drivers who ignore school bus stop arms and flashing lights.
Constable Andrew Gamble says the “Safety Stops Here” initiative runs until March 13 and targets motorists who fail to stop for school buses.
The campaign comes after several collisions involving buses over the past month.
Gamble says officers will also be watching for other dangerous behaviour around school transportation, including speeding, aggressive driving, following too closely and unsafe passing near school buses.
The OPP say drivers need to slow down, stay alert and be prepared to stop whenever a school bus activates its flashing lights and stop arm.
