Peterborough is feeling a little bit more Irish this week.
A flag raising ceremony was held on Monday, marking Irish Heritage Month, organized by the Peterborough Canadian Irish Club and Nine Ships 1825 Inc.
Cahal Sweeney, Vice Consul General of Ireland in Toronto, was among the guest speakers.
Mayor Jeff Leal said Irish Heritage Month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and contributions of Canadians of Irish descent. Irish immigrants and their descendants have played a significant role in shaping communities across Canada, including Peterborough.
Warden Bonnie Clark says she is hopeful the partnership between Ireland and our region will continue to lead to great possibilities.
The city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The parade will begin at City Hall on George Street and travel south to Lansdowne Street.
