A rally and march through downtown Peterborough will highlight International Women’s Day celebrations in the city this weekend.
Events organized by the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre, Kawartha World Issues Centre, and YWCA Peterborough Haliburton are scheduled for Saturday, March 7, a day ahead of the annual International Women’s Day on March 8.
The day begins with a rally at City Hall at 11:30 am, where Jeff Leal has issued a proclamation recognizing the day. Joy Lachica is expected to read the proclamation during the event.
Organizers say the rally will also feature drumming from the group Naandewegaan and a poem from Ziysah.
Participants will then march through the downtown before gathering at the Peterborough Public Library for an afternoon of activities in the Friends of the Library Community Room.
The afternoon portion includes music, light refreshments, and a discussion with Kat Owens from the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund.
All events are free to attend, though registration is encouraged for the activities at the library through the program calendar at ptbolibrary.ca.
