A commercial vehicle inspection blitz in Peterborough County resulted in several charges and two trucks being taken out of service.
The initiative was led March 3 by officers with the Ontario Provincial Police Peterborough County detachment, with support from the force’s Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division and officers from the Ontario Provincial Police Whitby Detachment.
Police say trained officers completed nine Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Level 1 inspections during the initiative. Seven charges were laid and two vehicles were deemed unsafe and removed from service.
The charges included failing to ensure performance standards were met, failing to properly conduct a daily inspection, push rod stroke exceeding the prescribed limit, failing to accurately complete a daily inspection report, and operating a commercial vehicle with a major defect.
Police say commercial motor vehicle inspections remain a regular part of the OPP’s enforcement efforts aimed at keeping roads safe for both commercial and passenger vehicles.
