More than $12,000 was raised for Trent University’s Excalibur student-athletes at the second annual Curl with Cathy Funspiel on Saturday at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club.
The event, hosted by Trent president Dr. Cathy Bruce, supports the Green & White Athletic Financial Awards, which help student-athletes manage the costs of training, competition, and academics.
“I want to thank everyone for taking part and for supporting this important cause. The generosity helps student athletes’ balance academics, training, competition and life beyond sport,” Bruce said. “To date, the fund has benefited over 450 Trent student-athletes, helping remove barriers, open doors and create opportunities for students to thrive at Trent.”
This year’s funspiel featured two sold-out draws with more than 60 participants. Funds were raised through registrations, a silent auction, and sponsorships, including a first-time draw sponsorship from LLF Lawyers LLP. Organizers say the total nearly doubled last year’s $7,000.
Nathan McFadden, director of Trent Athletics & Recreation, said the event showed strong community support. “It was special to see the Peterborough Golf and Country Club filled for the second annual Funspiel, which speaks volumes about the strength of our Trent community and the belief our supporters have in Excalibur student-athletes,” he said.
The Green & White Athletic Financial Awards continue to provide vital support for student-athletes, helping them succeed both on the field and in the classroom.
