A 35-year-old Peterborough man wanted on a warrant is facing additional charges following an incident Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. on February 19, officers were called to an apartment building on Romaine Street between Aylmer Street and Park Street for reports of a man with a bat causing a disturbance in a hallway and stairwell.
Police say several tenants encountered the man in the hallway, and when they retreated to safety, he allegedly charged at them and struck an apartment door. Officers learned the suspect had returned to his apartment and was refusing to come out. No injuries were reported. Police evacuated several adjoining units and secured the building.
At around 7:30 p.m., officers attended the apartment with a warrant. The suspect exited the unit and was taken into custody.
The accused was arrested on the strength of a warrant for assault and uttering threats to cause bodily harm and is further charged with:
-
Assault with a weapon
-
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
-
Mischief under $5,000 (two counts)
The 35-year-old man was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court February 20, 2026.
Romaine Street was closed for several hours during the investigation.
