The 26th Peterborough St. Patrick’s Day Parade is fast approaching, but there remains room for additional parade entries before the March 1st entry deadline.
That’s the word from organizer Tim Burke, who says there are already more than 85 entries ready to roll down George Street on March 15th starting at 2 p.m. from Peterborough City Hall.
Burke says last year’s focus on all thing Irish during what was the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the Peter Robinson settlers to the Peterborough region created a buzz that he expects will carry over the parade.
This year’s parade grand marshal is Christy Roche, a native of Cork, Ireland who has written a book about the Peterborough Robinson immigration families and is a leading authority on their journey to Canada and their subsequent contributions to their new home.
Burke stresses that the parade, while a celebration of Irish heritage, is a fun time for all, regardless of their background.
