Peterborough’s proposed high-speed rail line was the focus of today’s discussion among local dignitaries and business leaders.
The Peterborough + Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce hosted PK Conversations: High-Speed Rail Advancement with ALTO, a community and business dialogue examining progress on high-speed rail development in Eastern Ontario.
The initiative, led by the federal Crown corporation ALTO, was designed to enhance mobility, strengthen market access and support sustainable development across participating communities.
Peterborough + Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Brenda Whitehead said it was too early to speak about all the advantages the project would bring, but said it would have a major impact on the local economy and transportation services.
The session featured updates from ALTO leadership and regional perspectives from Peterborough County Warden Bonnie Clark. The event focused on informing local businesses about economic opportunities tied to the proposed rail corridor that could one day connect Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa and Quebec City.
Whitehead said its long-term impact on regional growth could spur significant growth in a skilled workforce.
Whitehead concluded by saying she was looking forward to sharing more as the project continues.
