Hazardous winter weather is sweeping across the region, bringing up to 15 centimetres of snow and prompting the cancellation of all school transportation services.
Environment officials say a low pressure system is moving through the area, delivering 10 to 15 cm of snow mixed with ice pellets at times. The system began impacting the region this morning and is expected to continue through the evening.
Icy and slippery conditions are developing, with reduced visibility and rapidly changing road conditions expected throughout the day. Travel will likely be challenging, particularly during the afternoon rush hour.
In response to the forecast, Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario (STSCO) has cancelled all buses for the day.
The cancellation affects all schools within its jurisdiction, including those under the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir across Peterborough City, Northumberland County and Clarington.
Schools remain open, but no bus or transportation services will operate.
