It’s not being staged until the spring, but an annual musical production at Queen Mary Public School sees students hard at it now in preparation.
Rock of Ages: Youth Edition will be presented April 27th to May 1st at the Monaghan Road school. Five early evening performances will be staged, with all proceeds from admission donations going to the school’s nutrition program.
Special education resource teacher Teresa Laton is one of three teachers guiding 80 students from kindergarten through Grade 8 through rehearsals. She says staging the annual production fills a void for artistically-minded students.
Caitlyn Boothroyd is playing the part of Sherrie, one of the musical’s main characters.
Savannah Walpole is doing double duty as both an actor and a member of the ensemble.
Also in the mix is Lexi Coppaway, another ensemble member who is making her stage debut.
