Years of volunteer service have convinced Louise LeBlanc of one thing – “If selfish people knew how good it felt to volunteer, they would volunteer.”
For the past two years, LeBlanc has volunteered with the Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton, and is currently the organization’s Ambassador for Lived Experience. That role sees her attend offered education sessions where she shares her lived experience with participants.
In addition, LeBlanc is facilitating a new program, Coffee and Connections, that brings past and present caregivers together.
She says her volunteer work, past and present, has “always been kind of personal”, emphasizing that the passion of Alzheimer Society staff impressed her on day one, and continues to be a huge motivating factor in her dedication to her volunteer work.
LeBlanc says the support she received from the Alzheimer Society convinced her it was an organization she wanted to help.
