Lakelands Public Health is reminding parents and guardians of students in Grades 2 and 11 to ensure their children’s immunization records are up to date, as required under provincial law.
Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), students must have current immunization records or a valid exemption on file. Families who do not submit or update these records may face school suspensions beginning March 31, 2026. Schools will start sending suspension notices home on March 9, 2026.
“It’s important for parents and guardians to report their child’s immunization updates directly to Lakelands Public Health,” said Marianne Rock, Manager of Vaccine and Preventable Diseases. “Immunization information is not automatically shared by healthcare providers, so it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to ensure Public Health is informed of any updates.”
How to check, update, or book immunizations:
-
Check or update online: Access your child’s record through Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON) or the Online Immunization Portal at LakelandsPH.ca/Immunization.
-
Book an immunization appointment: Clinics are available for students without a local healthcare provider; appointments are required.
-
Submit an exemption: Visit LakelandsPH.ca/Exemption to complete the process; a nurse will review and follow up.
-
Call for help: Families can contact Lakelands Public Health at 1‑866‑888‑4577 for assistance.
Local school boards supporting this initiative include Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Trillium Lakelands District School Board, Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir, and the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, and Clarington Catholic District School Board.
