A Peterborough man is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop Tuesday morning led to the seizure of drugs, cash and open alcohol.
Police say at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday, an officer on general patrol stopped a vehicle near Aylmer and Townsend streets after an Automated Licence Plate Reader indicated the plate was registered to a deceased person. During the stop, officers learned the vehicle had recently been purchased and that the driver was suspended.
Police say open alcohol was visible inside the vehicle. Following the arrest, officers seized two open cans of alcohol, 12 bags containing a total of nine grams of suspected cocaine, an open cannabis container, a cellphone, $1,000 in cash, a driver’s licence and licence plates.
The 36-year-old Peterborough man is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, driving while under suspension, operating a vehicle without insurance, having care or control of a vehicle with open liquor, and several Highway Traffic Act and Cannabis Control Act offences.
He appeared in court on Wednesday.
