The local unemployment rate stayed fairly steady in to start 2026.
In Peterborough, the rate dropped from 6.7 to 6.6 per cent.
Nationally, Canada’s economy lost 25,000 jobs last month, marking the first net decline since August according to Stats Canada.
The losses were concentrated in the private sector and part-time positions, with women aged 25 to 54 disproportionately affected.
