People in the Peterborough area have a new reason to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year: laughter. Veteran Canadian comedian Evan Carter is set to take the stage at Kawartha Downs in Fraserville on February 14, bringing a mix of observational humour and relatable stories to the racetrack just outside Peterborough. Known for clean, sharp comedy, Carter promises a night of shared smiles for couples, singles, parents, seniors, and adults alike.
Carter says he’s excited to perform at Kawartha Downs for the first time, alongside fellow comics Tracy Hamilton and Jeremy Dobski, guaranteeing there to be one common thread throughout the night.
The show is expected to run about 90 minutes, featuring relatable material and observations about everyday life that audiences find instantly recognizable. With it being Valentine’s Day, Carter anticipates there will be many couples in the crowd, which is something he’s looking forward to.
Carter has been performing comedy professionally for decades, tracing his first stage experience back to 1977. He recalls the nerves and excitement of those early days and says the thrill of performing never fades.
For Carter, comedy isn’t just about laughs, it’s also about community. Off-stage, he has raised millions of dollars through fundraisers for schools, health causes, and youth sports, as well as countless food, clothing and toy drives, often teaming up with fellow comedians and friends.
The Valentine’s Day show will feature Carter’s signature observational humour, poking fun at daily life in a way that resonates with a wide audience.
Carter also uses his trademark wit to riff on modern delights and irritations, like our reliance on a groundhog to predict the end of winter.
For those who can’t make it to Kawartha Downs, Carter remains active online, sharing his comedy through social media platforms including YouTube, Twitter (X), and his website. He also keeps busy as MC and narrator for the touring show Legends of Motown, bringing his comedic touch and verbal skills to music audiences. The show made a stop at Del Crary Park in Peterborough during the 2024 Musicfest season.
The Valentine’s Day show promises a lighthearted evening for anyone looking to celebrate with laughter. With decades of experience, a commitment to clean, relatable material, and a track record of community engagement, Evan Carter is ready to deliver an unforgettable night.
Tickets are available through the Kawartha Downs website.
