Curbside collection of natural Christmas trees is continuing across the city, though recent snowfall and winter maintenance operations have caused delays in some neighbourhoods.
Municipal officials say collection has been completed in the north end, east city and central areas. Crews are still working through the west end and south end.
Snow removal activities and compacted snowbanks have made it more difficult for crews to locate and retrieve trees placed at the curb. As a result, residents are being reminded to ensure their trees remain visible, accessible and not buried by snow.
To prepare trees for composting, residents are asked to remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and plastic bags before placing trees at the curb. Trees should be positioned in a clearly visible location, kept out of snowbanks and placed away from sidewalks and roadways.
Officials note that Christmas tree collection does not follow regular curbside pickup schedules and residents do not need to call to request service.
The city says crews will continue working through remaining areas as weather and conditions permit, and thanks residents for their patience as the seasonal collection program continues.
