A group of East City residents gathered this past weekend to discuss and plan how neighbours can best help each other during extreme weather events.
Billed as the East City Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Meeting, the group reviewed what worked during recent storm events, what didn’t work, and how neighbours can support each other the next time around.
Co-organizer Ashley Bonner says the idea for the meeting grew out of the aftermath of the last spring’s ice storm that left many without power for several days.
Bonner says there’s an opportunity for resident groups and municipalities to work more closely together to mitigate the impacts of storm events.
Bonner says a number of mitigating and helpful measures were proposed and discussed.
Bonner says the group, christened as East City CARE (Community Action and Resilience in Emergencies), will host subsequent meetings on February 28th and March 28th, 1 p.m., at St. Luke’s Anglican Church on Armour Road.
