A pair Peterborough food businesses have announced they will be closing their doors.
BeaverTails Pastry Peterborough says it will permanently close operations as of February 15th, or once remaining inventory is sold. Owners Adam and Michelle said the decision followed ongoing struggles with maintaining consistent business levels, despite strong community support over the past three years. The family plans to pivot to a mobile food operation under the ‘Chemong Chuck Wagon’ name.
Meanwhile, downtown dessert shop The Vanilla Room has also announced it will close, though a final date has not yet been set. Owners Kayla and Jules pointed to rising costs, an uncertain economy, and reduced discretionary spending by customers as key factors. With their lease ending, they said the decision allows them to plan for their family’s future.
Both businesses expressed gratitude to customers and emphasized the closures were not a reflection of community support, but of broader economic realities impacting small businesses.
