A snowfall warning remains in effect as a winter storm continues to impact much of southern Ontario, prompting the cancellation of all school transportation in Peterborough City and County.
Environment Canada is forecasting 15 to 25 centimetres of snow, with periods of heavy snowfall reducing visibility at times. Local blowing snow is also expected, making travel conditions difficult.
The snow is expected to continue through today and taper off tonight. A sharp drop in temperature and cold wind chills are adding to the challenging conditions, particularly during the morning hours.
As a result, Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario (STSCO) has cancelled all bus and transportation services for the day.
The cancellation affects all schools within the STSCO jurisdiction, including Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, and Conseil scolaire MonAvenir schools in Peterborough City and County.
Schools remain open for students who can safely attend, but families are being advised that no busing will be provided.
Drivers are being urged to prepare for rapidly changing road conditions, especially during peak travel times, and to allow extra time for commuting.
