The City of Peterborough lifted its Significant Weather Event declaration yesterday, Tuesday, January 13, at 5 p.m.
The alert had been in place since Friday, December 26, following two weeks of heavy snowfall and icy conditions across the region.
Public Works crews were deployed repeatedly to clear snow and ice from roads, sidewalks, bus stops, and bike lanes, ensuring safe travel during the prolonged winter weather.
Winter parking restrictions remain in effect. From December 1 to April 1, parking is prohibited on all city streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. to allow snow-clearing operations. Violations carry a $35 fine, while stopping on streets during active snow clearing can result in an $80 fine and towing. Vehicles north of Parkhill Road are towed to Milroy Park, with others to Morrow Park; unclaimed vehicles are moved to an impound yard at the owner’s expense.
Off-street options include all municipal parking lots, the King Street Parkade, and the Simcoe Parking Garage, where overnight parkers can get a free transit ticket home.
