When it comes to the recently released ‘Report Card on Ontario’s Elementary Schools’, James Strath stands alone in Peterborough.
The report evaluated 3,052 schools using nine academic indicators drawn from standardized provincial test results. The rankings are intended to provide families with information on how schools perform over time and how they compare with others across Ontario.
James Strath scored a 7.5 – tops for any school in the city and 589th in Ontario.
“Our Report Cards offer parents information they can’t easily get anywhere else, about how their child’s school performs and how it compares to other schools in Ontario,” said Paige MacPherson, a senior fellow with the Fraser Institute, in a statement.
The institute says this year’s data challenge common assumptions about school performance, suggesting that improvement is possible regardless of a school’s location, type or student population.
“It doesn’t matter where a school is ranked, or what challenges its students may face,” MacPherson said. “The evidence is clear—all types of schools, located all over the province with different types of students, are all capable of improvement.”
