The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Central Region charged 179 drivers with a combined 288 impaired driving-related offences during its 2025 Festive RIDE campaign, which ran from November 20 to January 1.
Officers conducted 1,916 roadside spot checks across 13 detachment areas, including Peterborough County, City of Kawartha Lakes, and surrounding regions, totaling more than 3,500 hours of enforcement. The campaign also resulted in 28 warn-range suspensions.
Superintendent Coyer Yateman of OPP Central Region said the campaign highlights the ongoing dangers of impaired driving. “Removing over 200 impaired drivers during this campaign is both significant and deeply concerning. Every one of those drivers represents a potential tragedy we prevented,” Yateman stated.
Provincially, OPP officers removed 766 impaired drivers from Ontario roads and issued 150 warn-range suspensions during 11,130 RIDE check events.
Police are reminding the public to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence. Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
