Trinity Community Centre has marked two years in operation at its Reid Street location.
The centre, operated by One City Peterborough, is continuing its day one mission of providing a safe minimum-barrier space for people who are marginalized or unsheltered, and in many cases, both. It does so via a daytime drop-in program and an overnight program.
One City staff and volunteers, among them acting executive director Tammy Kuehne, marked the milestone in early December with a celebration at the centre. She reflects on the centre’s opening when there were a lot of unknowns about how things would pan out.
Kuehne acknowledges that the centre is a band-aid as opposed to a solution of the homelessness challenge.
Kuehne notes those toiling daily in the trenches are what makes the centre work.
As evidence of community support for One City Peterborough and the work it does, the recent Giving Tuesday initiative saw close to $28,000 donated.
