Peterborough’s public skating rink at Quaker Foods City Square is expected to open later this week, but the city says recent snowfall may affect ice-making and could delay the launch.
Skating at the downtown rink is free, with hours running 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
A portable washroom is available on site, while heated facilities are located at the Peterborough Public Library on Aylmer Street. The city reminds skaters to follow posted rules, including wearing skates at all times, avoiding speed or figure skating, and noting that hockey, sticks and pucks are not allowed. CSA-approved helmets are required for children six and under, and anyone under 10 must be supervised by someone 16 or older.
Mobility aids, sledges and approved skating supports are permitted, and staff can assist if needed.
Parking is available at the King Street Parking Garage and on nearby streets. The city continues to offer free two-hour holiday parking at all municipal spaces until Dec. 31, sponsored by Wolfe Lawyers. Fees paid during this period will support Kawartha Food Share.
