It will certainly be a very merry Christmas thanks to local residents, area businesses and our very-own radio stations.
Oldies 96.7 and Freq 90.5 hit the road Saturday for the second annual Salvation Army Toy Tour — an event aimed at easing the holiday strain for parents facing tough choices between essentials like rent and the cost of Christmas.
Sales Manager Jef Dueck says it’s a great way for the stations to make a difference.
The tour, presented by Focus Flooring Centre, stopped at three locations throughout the day: Canadian Tire on Lansdowne, The Toy Shop on Charlotte St., and Canadian Tire on Chemong Rd. Volunteers also joined the Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade on George Street that evening, collecting donations along the route.
After a long day in the community, the stations were able to get thousands of dollars worth of toys. Dueck says Peterborough locals show their support no matter the conditions.
Residents were encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys, helping fill the McLeod’s Eco Water truck with gifts for families in need.
Dueck said the support shown on Saturday helped ensure more children across the region will have something to smile about this holiday season.
PTBOToday.ca will have final results as the toys are collected and counted the week of Dec. 8th.
