A 46-year-old Peterborough man is facing drug trafficking charges after an encounter with officers on foot patrol Wednesday morning.
Just before noon on Wednesday, officers walking through Stewart Street Park near Stewart Street and Sherbrooke Street noticed suspicious activity and approached two men. After speaking with them, officers learned one man was wanted on a warrant for failing to comply with probation and took him into custody.
A search after arrest turned up eight pill bottles with different names, 219 Dilaudid pills, and a foldable knife.
The 46-year-old was arrested on the warrant and further charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Dilaudid). He is currently bound by a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and not possess any weapons.
The second man, a 49-year-old Peterborough man, was arrested under the Safer Public Spaces initiative. Drugs were seized, and after further investigation he was released unconditionally.
